Yes I think its very hard to make a really good - game contrast - because in Farming Simulator your just maximizing yield with thinking about the effects. For a game to - work - in the broader sense?

Thats also a interesting tangent: I think my uncle understands intuitevely Systems Thinking to a degree from living with the land for 30 years. But others on the farm do not have the experience he had and also may lack the interlectual knowledge to connect from the abstract(information about System thinking) to the concreate - what does that MEAN her ein the local context.

Every situation is different. So I don’t have any formulas or recipes that are guaranteed to work for your uncle. The farm I work on is not really a “farm” in the sense that they don’t try to maximize sales from farm production. Their main line of business is residential care for disabled adults (state funded) and the farm is a side project providing occupational therapy. But things are changing there, also. The coming model will be use the farm more as an educational center and as a fee-generating venue for community events. It’s not a strictly permaculture operation (they do have a tractor and use power mowers) but mostly it’s pretty low-tech.

At the most abstract level, permaculture is “post-capitalist”. It’s not about the money. But the world we are in is still mostly capitalist - all about the money. The farm I work on is spiritually post-capitalist, non-profit, but it still needs revenue to pay people and to acquire needed materials. So it’s exploring how to widen the revenue base. In the case of your uncle, it would take a strong “capitalist” position (ownership, revenue model) to pivot to a post-capitalist focus on land stewardship. Without knowing your uncle and the entire situation, it would be very hard to assess if that sort of pivot is realistic in his case or if in the end the farm operation will go in the direction of finding profit in whatever way works best.

Its interesting to see that you see a “strong” capitalist position as a step to move towards more post capitalist perma culutre.

I think this points to something very close to my core problem thesis inquiry:

How much can a farm today be technological and resource independent, but also how can it serve as a beacon of new forms of social interactions:

Be it educational learning hubs with focus on solidarity agriculture, perma culture, but also local currency, local manufacturing ( 3D Metal printing and CNC wood printing)
