Integral Multiculturalism

In a recent post in another thread, I suggested that neither integral nor metamodern theory have taken civilizational pluralism as seriously as they ought to. This very recent essay - by Leonardo Wilson - makes a good start on that needed project within the integral framework.

(FYI - I logged into US Amazon and found the same Kindle essay there. Others might attempt other regional Amazon channels).

What Wilson points out is that cultures have both surface features (like cuisines and nation costumes) and deep structures related to culture or consciousness, such as the magic, the mythic, the rational, and the integral. It’s all too easy to conflate the one with the other, such as when Hegel mapped rationality to whiteness. (See my other thread on Marco Rubio - same story, different century).

Personally, I’d like to raise the ante on Wilson and to suggest that different civilizations have different forms of “reason” itself, with Western ideas of universal rationality not being quite so universal as they are often made out to be. But that’s another story for another day … I’m just delighted that Wilson is broaching this topic in integral circles, and I look forward to any sympathetic or critical responses that follow from this.
