Hello everyone,
So as to keep the suggested formula of creating a brief post to outline the upcoming research calls, attached here is some of the overall motivation/content to expect this Friday.
For starters, as I’ve mentioned before, I think 1) the group is valuable in itself for Friday meetings, before realizing or adopting a more specific research aim, if there is to be one (or many), which I think could (probably even should) emerge more clearly over time. But I more so just want to emphasize that for me that the more informal, informative and dialogue based Friday sessions, where ideas are shared and practices are experimented with, is in itself valuable and worthwhile. I’d like to see this continue; and this upcoming call is about fostering that experimentation and seeing where things go.
Second, I think it would be nice to include or get going an outlined ‘ecology of practices’, in the sense of the very basic sense of different kinds of meetings that we hold and the practices therewithin. As part of this emerging ecology I think poetry certainly could have a meaningful place, for a number of different reasons, which I might discuss a bit in Fridays call, but to briefly outline: it could be useful so as to to include some diversity, is alive within me at the moment as an emerging practice, and explores different ‘ways of knowing’.
So maybe once every few months it would be good to have a poetry reading/reflection session, if others agree that it is appropriate to do so.
Whatever the case, for this reading/reflection, I’d like to keep it more informal and open-ended, and here are a few links that I’m thinking about citing from: first a recent original poem, the rest, some other poems from Paul Muldoon (my personal favorite), Jorge Luis Borges (a story, but might read excerpts), and Brendan Walsh, another one of my favorites, also contemporary.
As mentioned, feel free to contribute either your own poems, poems you find insightful, or whatever else feels relevant. Looking forward to tomorrow
