Why not add ‘is the Earth flat’?
Because there’s less evidence for a round planet than there is for climate change, caused by humans.
If the Church still had big power, as much as the fossil fuel industry, and still as much commitment to a flat earth as in its prime, I am sure as many people would be pummelling the flat earth platform and denying all the science, too.
Moral of the story:-
You can’t fix the system as it is or bit by bit. The problems are too embedded. It needs to crash and burn for something truly different to arise.

Leaning into the pessimism, I ran the prompt below and got the resulting session saved as a Doc. It would be great if minds changed on mass scales, but maybe they won’t. Maybe the human species will effectively fork, instead.
Prompt: “Assuming 99% of humans believe climate change is a hoax, suggest an effective human species survival strategy for the other 1%.”
I find the premise of the question strange.

Some people will choose to believe whatever they choose to believe, no matter the facts.

Could you say more? This could mean a lot of different things. And how does one engineer an event to get everyone’s attention? Isn’t that what influencers are all trying to do?
The summarised recommendations run parallel to another, more realistic, prompt: ‘assume no meaningful change in the present trajectory, including embedded consolidation of wealth and power by those who benefit from, and rely on, continued extraction and use of fossil fuels’. Because that is the trajectory humanity has been on for decades, and no amount of gathered urgent warnings from the scientific community - now gone beyond desperation to exhaustion - has changed the trajectory by one iota. The world remains fully hooked on fossil fuels. But even if it wasn’t, it still has the predicament of somehow dealing with all the greenhouse gases that have been pumped into the atmosphere to date, which are enough to push things over the edge within a few decades (if not starting to already). And I’m not even touching on subjects like circulation of pervasive pollutants (for example, microplastics can now be found in the high arctic and deep ocean floor), the dire state of the oceans, and a biosphere collapsing as a result of species extinction, rampant deforestation, critically declining soil health, and so on.
Anyone really familiar with the science knows this is not pessimism but realism.

Criticise by doing better, I’m doing what I can with what I have. Various interesting experiences led me here and I would love to share some lessons, some of them are unique on the planetary scale. The “money from the future .com” aspect WILD… I appreciate the uniqueness, 1 is accident, 2 coincidence, 3 pattern and seeing some patterns that are unique to see. Definitely a privileged role but I’m not taking this privilege for granted.

If I understand you correctly, you’re going to produce memes and these memes are going to unify enough people to solve the metacrisis?
I’m probably wrong in interpreting what you’ve posted this way, but what you’ve written is a bit on the vague side, and that’s genuinely the impression I’m getting. Can you correct me or add qualification if I’m wrong?
That’s about the sum of it. I doubt persuasive arguments will matter all that much. Physical signals will force change in the end. Whether you want to accept my 1% number or pick a different one, the early adopters of less energy-intensive lifestyles are what Toynbee called a “creative minority”. Conveniently, creative minorities are also known for launching new civilizations, so there’s that. But even if the entire world gladly gave lip service to climate change risk, the mechanical details of shifting food, clothing, transport, housing, etc. away from carbon consumption suggest climate change will need to be reckoned with, more that prevented.
There is an entirely serious point in the post for that quote that the entirely serious thread participants here may wish to consider. It’s essentially the same point Nassim Taleb makes about bestselling books living in “Extremestan”. Namely, sales per book are not even remotely distributed per book author, and the actual distribution is nothing at all like the famous bell curve. Rather, some huge proportion of total book sales fall to a very small proportion of star authors at the top of the charts.
Taleb just notes this phenomenon, but given that we’re working on cultural change models here, I got to thinking, is there some cognitive or cultural mechanism that tilts book sales distribution in such a skewed manner? My best shot is it may well involve each of us having rather limited cognitive bandwidth. There are only so many star authors (or star anything) most of us wish to attend to at a given time. It stands to reason, then, that market forces will tend to cluster extremely around some small constellation of names that are likely to drive sales. The audience, in effect, can only tolerate so much on the menu. So it’s a winner-take-most sort of set-up.
Because I am ultra-pragmatic, my first impulse is simply to take note that is how the world seems to work, then to think about ways to leverage that understanding. At the risk of driving outrage (then again, in a discussion forum, outrage is not entirely bad!), I’ve suggested to Rufus that 2R ought to cultivate a stable of “star” presenters. My spit in the wind estimate is more than 1 or 2, but less than 10 or 20. Why a single digit “star presenter” stable? Because that’s pretty much what cognitive bandwidth will allow. Attention just focuses that way. It’s like a force of nature. We can fight it. Or we can use it!
