Research Call 19th September: Bob Bunge on Synergy Engine

This week, continuing our theme of AI, Bob will talk to us about a technical platform he’s working on called ‘Synergy Engine’. The idea is to improve collaboration in the not-for-profit section through an AI-infused platform. There is also a larger framing about education reform.

Looking forward to it!

As a teaser for the session, below is some language my research partners, World Systems Solutions, is using to describe their intended design for a Synergy Engine. My role in this to figure out very concrete, specific ways students from varied backgrounds can engage with such design questions. In tomorrow’s session, I plan to put that process to the test. Namely, can you imagine how a quality like “shared purpose” can be supported by a data system? How about “collective intelligence”? Or any of the others. I very certainly have more questions than answers on such matters, so I’ll be looking forward to hearing what others have to say as well!

“Key characteristics of this approach and intended platform design include collaboration supportive functionality which foster and enhance:

Shared Purpose – Emphasising a collective vision and clear communication of goals to ensure alignment among all participants.

Collective Intelligence – Harnessing group wisdom and drawing in external views in real-time, encouraging collaborative problem-solving and knowledge sharing through egoless active listening. Active listening fosters empathy, respect, and valuing diverse viewpoints, augmented by effective AI communication.

Verifiable Trust, Authenticity, and Psychological Safety – Cultivating an environment where participants can express ideas, take risks, and contribute without fear, built on integrity, accountability, intentional inclusivity, and transparency. This also involves integrating ethics, morals, and human emotional dynamics into organisational processes to optimise collective capacity.

Inclusivity and Diversity – Actively valuing different backgrounds, experiences, perspectives, and expertise, specifically advocating for the systemic inclusion of women and youth in leadership positions globally.

AI for Jobs Creation – The prevailing use of AI tends to displace jobs, whereas this approach to AI is designed to generate job creation, skills development and skills gap navigation and closure through tailored education.

Global Model for AI Governance – Optimally ensuring dynamic AI regulation and verifiable safety, trustworthiness, and collective alignment of all platform AIs with planetary sustainability metrics. The PHOENIX Platform vitally acts as an incubator for artificial general intelligence (AGI) safeguarding and serving the wellbeing of humanity and nature for the long term.”
