Research Collective Collabothon / Hackathon đź‘‹ 4th April 2025

The first mini Collabothon in 2025 for the Second Renaissance & Life Itself Research Collective this April, current suggestion is Friday 4th for 4 hours as part of the coworking week after the Spring Gathering event (but open to other dates being proposed)

  • When: Friday 4th April, 3pm-8pm CET / 2-7pm UK / 6am-11am pacific
  • Who: open to all
  • What: We’ll focus on developing the Lexicon and the Wiki … and you can work on any project you wish

This will be an opportunity to come together, share ideas, and work on collaborative research projects in a focused but flexible format. The theme/topic is open for discussion and ideas are welcomed.

We would then propose to run longer collabothons/hackathons every 3-4 months moving forward.

Drop thoughts and ideas below

Sounds good! And very manageable too.
given the relatively short time, would be very good to have 5-ish options for things that need work ahead of session, so people can just hop on something and get started

Yes, shall we say 1pm-5pm UK time? Or 2pm-6pm? I can be there from 3.30-5pm.

I think Liminal Lexicon will be one ready-to-go project (and we can transpose some of the entries to the Wiki as well), though this will be informed by any sessions during Limicon. I will also try to collect previous efforts towards this in advance so we’re not duplicating previous work.

I wonder if we can do polls in this forum e.g. on the date - see Creating and managing polls - Using Discourse - Discourse Meta

I think we probably want a Friday (maybe friday-saturday like last time). so that is 4th of 11th as options.

After that we could do a poll on a core topic - people can always work on whatever they want and having a core topic is helpful.

PS: anyone up for pulling together a list of our previous hackathons/collabothons somewhere (e.g. a dedicated meta-thread) so we can reference them and learn from them.

Just read down to this and :+1: to 1-5pm UK time.

One thought: Wonder if we even run a bit later e.g. end at 9pm UK time so we allow participation from US. Of course, people will roll in and roll out … but we coudl have a sync moment at 1630-1700 UK where new folks can join and european folks can bow out (if they wish). This approach worked last time.

:triangular_flag_on_post: Friday 4th April is not a good date, as we will likely have a “show + tell”/some kind of presentation session on the Friday afternoon at the end of the co-living/co-working week for people to share what they have been working on.

@rufuspollock as the hosting team i think we should be present for that.

Hmmm. I wonder if there is actually nice connection there - rather than a tension. e.g. we could have the in person show and tell end of morning before lunch.

then afternoon is either relaxed or people can come to hackathon – and share there too. (also often useful to have some time to polish after show and tell based on that experience).

okay, sure, friday morning 11am-1pm could work for the end of community co-working week “show + tell”

Hi all - confirming that the Collabothon is going ahead this Friday from 3pm to 8pm CET. hosted by myself, @Asimong and @laurenw.

There’s plenty of work waiting to be done on the Wiki and the new Liminal Lexicon, and you’re welcome to bring your own collaborative projects as well.

No need to attend the whole session - feel free to drop in for whatever period works for you. Hopefully see you there!

Just now I have updated the lexicon page with direct links to the appropriate places. My understanding (correct me if I am wrong) is that changes to the lexicon page need to be made in Github, not directly on the page, as the Github entry automatically transfers to the viewable page, but not the other way round.
