Research Group Evolution: Robert Bunge is becoming Lead Steward

Reposting this message about the evolution of the research group here on @rufuspollock’s suggestion:

I’m very happy to share that with the new research stewardship circle in place, @RobertBunge has stepped up to take on the role of lead steward. I will therefore be stepping back from leading the weekly research group calls.

I’m proud of what we’ve achieved over the last year - a vibrant community, a large number of high quality recordings on the substack, publications and more - and I’ll continue to be part of this group and the research stewards’ circle, and to occasionally present or host calls.

Looking forward to seeing how things evolve under Bob’s stewardship.

Thanks @JonahW !

Being a process nerd (among other things), here is step-by-step summary of what research stewardship means to me:

  1. wide funnel (like this Forum with anyone posting anything)
  2. special topic presenters at our weekly research sessions
  3. regular research presenter rotations
  4. focused research subcircles
  5. publications, conferences, organized practice groups, etc.

If anyone wants to present at some weekly upcoming research group session, DM me and we will see if we can get you on the schedule. Item 3 is our regular research group presenters (you know who you are!). Item 4 is a new format. We are wrapping up the first of those on Friday July 3. Anyone with ideas for another one like that, DM me please. On item 5, of course anyone can publish anything without going through Second Renaissance. But if you would like to position your work in Second Renaissance channels with a certain degree of Second Renaissance endorsement attached, again DM me. I would visualize the Second Renaissance endorsement as flowing through steps 1) through 4) above, resulting ultimately in 5).

Our upcoming Research Group schedule is pretty open. For the past several years, we have been holding 60-90 minute weekly Zoom calls at 15:00 UTC on Fridays. We will be taking tomorrow (Friday June 26) off. On Friday July 3, we will hold the sixth and final session of the research subcircle on What is Second Renaissance? Beyond that - nothing firm on the schedule.

Would you like to present to Second Renaissance Research on a one time basis? Do you know of any presenters you would like to see us invite? If you have presented regularly to Second Renaissance Research in the past, would you like to do so again?

Please feel free to post any topic or speaker suggestions in the thread below. We’ll take these (and other ideas) and begin to rough out a forward-looking schedule.
