What’s hatching in the Oasis?

We entered into the Oasis call with an idea, inspired by the absence of active tents in today’s gathering. Our intention was to inspire ourselves and each other with potential tents and projects that can call in a Second Renaissance.

We began by sharing, in different pairs for each question, our reflections on:

  • What would you do with a Time-Turner (i.e. magical 5 extra hours per day)?
  • What would you do with a Calvin and Hobbes duplicator (i.e. magical copies of yourself)?
  • What would you do if everybody you met wanted to do everything they could to help you?

This naturally moved us into our incubation exploration by considering:

  • Which ideas did you find most fun or pleasing?
  • Which ideas would help to incubate a Second Renaissance?
  • Of these, which would you most want to support or contribute to?

Ideas shared

Written in their original captured note form, those who shared an idea are invited to expand on theirs below in the thread.

  • Making a support group for people transitioning (game-A-to-B style) their lives, assistance and finding alternative paths
  • Facilitating the flow of ideas (through a platform), filtering and strategizing and finding people, sorting hat and tools/spells, methodology for people putting their ideas into action
  • Dedicated space for (talking about) parenting in the metacrisis - ethics, questions, incorporating parents in transformational spaces
  • Focus on small scale, enabling tiny wins
  • Teaching/talking about new ideas, exploring a particular idea, structured as a mini-course structure
  • Language, changing language to support systems change we want to see. Experimentation in shifting our language, learning lessons and how to spread
  • Engagement/outreach for the Oasis - do we want more people, from where, how, how to find/reach them?
  • Multi-faceted incubator - a place where different people with different skills/lenses/resources can support
  • Time - t₁ is impulse, the individual moment and choice. t₂ is relationship, with each other, and with context. t₃ is deep time, myth, architecture of a city, dna.

Using the egg hatching metaphor, we reflected on what eggs need to be able to hatch.

Warmth, energy, growing sense of agency and empowerment, small wins, growing sense of progress/achievement, nutrition in terms of money and security, energy that allows us to stabilise.

We considered an ‘expand and stabilise’ approach (shared by Ganga Devi) - we can spend so much energy simply in trying to survive; what do people need in order to even show up? Could cultural discomfort invite the expression of needs, to help shape requirements?

We acknowledged the importance of cohorts - developing relationships, the beauty in pitching ideas - whether for a 1 week, a 1 month or a 1 year project, to find supporters and companions.

In the Game A-B idea we acknowledged how everyones insights can contribute to supporting others, and how many ‘others’ there are across many deomgraphics that might be craving this support. Craving the joy, and the complex simplicity of seeing another. Learning from each other through our stories - our experiences, our hopes. Witnessing and reflecting. Being gifted with the sharing and acceptance of the ‘ugly’ parts of ourselves and others with non-judgement. Mentoring our messes, our fragilities, and sharing our shadows. Being truly devotional to our chosen path - as demonstrated by an attendee who had to leave early to honour this act of devotional care.

But, more than anything allowing the incubation to kindle reconnecting to the wonder of ‘this’, the appreciation of being able to notice what we are already a part of, and reminding ourselves what we came here for.

So, you are invited to join us at the Oasis - for our online villaging and scenius - as we continue to experiment with frames and structures. To honour nourishment and support. To provide a space to rest, to reset, and to rise into the next movement together.

The Oasis calls take place every Tuesday at 6pm CEST - Second Renaissance · Events Calendar

This Oasis call did a wonderful job of tying the being to the doing resulting numerous great ideas. I could feel the evolution of my efforts to create a tent take shape through my interactions with others. The doing portions seems to want to become more support each others doing. We saw a blooming of unique offerings and excitement from those looking for help. There is potential to build each other up and create a welcoming space for newcomers.

In my experience hosting a tent over the past several weeks I struggled with what we were doing. The tent was built around a metaphor, not a project. My approach was to go meta and claim we were building the tent itself. Those that came seems to like the concept and we mostly shared experiences of moving from the Blue World (Game A, logical, left brain) to the Red World (Game B, metaphorical, right brain). But engagement was falling and I was lacking new elements to bring. Experiments with keeping the practice going or maintaining the practice vibe seemed to fail. Now I feel revitalized that the tent has potential new life and a better fit as mutual support and sharing become what the tent participants offer the village.

I see this as a real selling point to expand the community. Going beyond intellectual discussion of the metacrisis, to creating resiliency and action through mutual support.

:egg: @JamesBaker, @laurenw @SilentShaun Sorry not to join the follow-up tent to this, I want to help support the initiative and keep momentum going, but have to spin other plates too. Keep us all in the loop?
